Thank you for those who have prayed for my recent trip to Africa.

The first country I visited was Malawi, in the city of Lilongwe. In 2011 I had been contacted by a former student that went through the School of Christ. His intention in communicating with me was to see the school go forward in Malawi. At the beginning of 2012 I visited him and we started a part time school in his church, which has continued to run these past two years in the evenings and weekends.

This year I talked about the possibility of running a full-time school in Malawi. On June 9th we started the school, and we had 28 pastors gather from different areas in Malawi. We housed these students at the church. Great was the hunger for the Word of God and for the Spirit of The Lord to have His way amongst us!

The next part of my trip was to Kenya. I have been involved in running the school in Kenya since 2007. This trip was a revision class with the former students, so we reviewed the series of “The Conflict” and the series of “The School of Christ.” The Director for the SOC in Uganda also joined us and there was great focus and unity of heart as we reviewed the lessons. Toward the end of the revision class we discussed with the former students how the school could move forward in Kenya. We have already run one school in Kenya this year but as these students talked, they planned tentatively to run two other schools this year.

Geita, Tanzania

The final step of the trip was to Geita, Tanzania. The School of Christ has been run in many places in Tanzania. We first started in Mwanza, then the school spread to many parts of the country. At one point we were running schools every month of the year. There has always been a great hunger for the training from the Bishops and Pastors in Tanzania. I had talked with our director for Tanzania about running one full-time school this year. We decided to run the school in Geita, which is a new area for us. At the beginning of the school we faced a problem. We only had space for 26 pastors to attend the training and 80 pastors turned up, the first 26 were given a place and the others have to wait. There is a great and effectual door opened to us there, so we are looking at running the school again in the months of August / September.

We just completed three schools in the month of April in Nairobi, Kenya; Rwamagana, Rwanda; and Mubende, Uganda. I count it a great privilege to witness the great hunger there is amongst the Lord’s servants in Africa. There is a priceless sobriety, discipline and yearning to seek the things of God. May God continue to water, give life and minister to His leaders in that continent.

Whenever I visit the schools, my work is mostly overseeing and making sure that the schools are functioning in the lines of discipline, adherence to Biblical truth, and accountability in the finances. We have native directors on the ground that see to the actual daily running of the schools. I try to spend a few days with each class in most countries, during which time I see how the director is doing and how the school is functioning.

The job of these directors is more than just playing videos. They have to answer questions, keep the discipline in the class, and make sure the cooks are not siphoning off the food to somewhere else.

Most importantly, they set the example for the class. That means they have to be present for the prayer meetings and ensure that no heretical teaching creeps in. They have to understand that the position they hold is not for the propagation of their own ideas (the school is not a platform for their own personal ministry.) Not every pastor or preacher can be one of these directors. We carefully choose them. Not all the directors have stayed with us, some have been like Judas, some have had their own ideas and so we let them go their ways – but we continue forward. Knowing what the Lord has placed in our trust is vitally important to us. We take seriously the charge and seek to hold that stewardship for His Glory and Kingdom.

Other schools that have finished recently and some presently running are as follows:

There has been a youth session in Brazzaville, Congo Republic; and regular schools in Togo and Ivory Coast. In Democratic Republic of Congo they are starting a school in a place Kasaji, which is a completely new area.

(19) And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?
(20) To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

Thank you for your prayers the Lord has graciously provided strength and ability during these last few weeks.

Togo, Revision Class

This journey was started in the country of Togo, where we had a revision class for former students who had been through the School of Christ. Then I travelled to Ivory Coast and finally to Nigeria. In each place we looked at the future of the training, how the former students could help and continue the work and get ready for the schools in the coming months.

Nigeria, Revision Class

These revision classes consisted of repeating and emphasizing certain lessons from the School of Christ. Particular emphasis was given to the series of the Holy Spirit, Revival, Rebuilding the Gates and the School of Christ. We stressed the point that God cannot build his church upon man’s fallen nature, so the ideas, opinions and programs of men are always rejected by God. God has his program and his plan – that is the revelation of His Son Jesus through His Vessel the Church. This work, therefore, demands the Cross, so that which is of human nature is ruled out and God’s Spirit would have His way.

Wau, South Sudan

During the month of February we graduated a full-time school in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo. They had 22 students, mostly Pastors and Bishops. Then we had a school in Wau, South Sudan. The director testified that this was one of the best schools he had the privilege of running, that the students were blessed with the teaching and not one word of complaint was raised. Praise the Lord!

(1) Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

Strange verses to start a newsletter with, but these are pertinent to the situation we face in some countries in Africa. Last year we ran an introductory school in the country of Gabon. We ran our second school there in January 2014. One of the problems that we came in contact with in Gabon was the issue of pastors drinking alcohol. This highlights the issues that are creeping in throughout Christianity on the continent of Africa. Of course these issues are not new, but seeing them directly influence the church is a means of continual exhortation on our part to Fight the Good Fight of Faith (1 Tim 6:12).

There is a teaching of unbiblical “grace” that has taken root in what were formerly conservative churches around the world. This “hyper-grace” teaching is not the true grace of Titus 2:12 teaching us to deny ungodliness, but it is the teaching of Jude vs 4 where ungodly men have crept in turning the grace of God into lasciviousness.

As such it highlights more than ever the absolute need for the preaching of God’s Word with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven – 1 Peter 1:12.

Paul stated that 1 Corinthians 2:4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:

This is what we aim for in the schools we run. The training is more than just academic, but we strive to provide the discipline and encouragement for these leaders to “seek those things which are above.”

In January, schools were run in Gabon and Democratic Republic of Congo, Kinshasha. We started a school in South Africa, but were misled by the man who invited us, so we had to cancel that school.

Youth School in Congo – Brazzaville.

We will be holding revision classes in Togo, Ivory Coast and Nigeria.

Please pray for these schools and revision classes that the Word of the Lord would have free course and be glorified (2 Thessalonians 3:1) and that our directors and myself would be kept in safety during our travels.

Thank you all for your prayers and support this year of 2013. It has been a great blessing to see the Lord provide for the continued running of the schools in Africa. I stand amazed at all that has been accomplished and I’m persuaded that what has gone forth has been an expression of God’s Will. Our purpose is to support and help with the running of training programs called the School of Christ across the continent of Africa.

In the months of November and December there have been schools running in Uganda, Nigeria, Kenya and Togo. Below is listed an update of the full-time schools that have taken place in Africa this year. Part-time schools continue to run on a regular basis in the countries of Togo, Kenya, Malawi and DR.Congo.

Thanks to the brethren on the ground in Africa who have labored in arduous conditions to see the Light of the Gospel shine forth. These co-laborers I am eternally grateful for, because in the midst of greed and corruption in the ranks of the ministry,God has his people throughout the world who care not for worldly fame or applause but work with an eye single to the Glory of God.

Understanding that the Church (Body of Christ) is usually the direct result of the ministry in charge of it, the need for training Godly leaders becomes paramount. God has graciously given us a tool in the School of Christ teaching that can radically affect a pastor’s life which will impact others under his influence. We therefore work towards this goal. We do not involve ourselves in building projects or social work (not that these things are wrong) but we pray and labor toward the aim of building the Kingdom of God in men’s lives. We believe this work can only be started, sustained and finished by the Holy Spirit, therefore we look to Him to meet the need across world.

In 2014 by Gods grace we look to run a full-time school in each of the 17 countries that we are working in Africa. In January we start with a school in Gabon, West Africa moving from there to South Sudan and Eastern DR Congo.

Light In The World Ministries October Update

Thank you for your continued prayers, support and encouragement. It has been encouraging to see the work continue in Africa. I have just returned from South Africa and Rwanda.

I have been working with the school in South Africa since 2008. The school that we just finished in September was a great blessing.

On the day we started there was such an aptitude for prayer. It is not often you get a school where everybody comes together with a desire to seek the Lord. Sometimes the prayer meeting is a bewildering time for new comers who have not had prolonged seasons of prayer by themselves. To pray for an hour without entertainment is a stretch for the flesh to come to terms with. By the end of the school the students were all testifying and sharing how God had dealt with them, spoken to their lives and taught them during the school. One of the highlights was a gentleman who came from an area near to the city of Durban. He is a pastor from the Zulu tribe and was excited about taking the teaching back to his home town, where there are at least 50 pastors that he says want to go through the school. He is requesting us to come there next January / February 2014.

After South Africa I was able to visit the school in Rwanda for the graduation. 35 leaders attended this school from the local area.

On my departure I was able to meet with Joseph Ngigi who is heading up the School of Christ in Kenya. They are running the school 2 days a week and also full–time schools during the school holidays.

Burkina Faso

This report is from Shalom who is working in Togo, Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso.

“From September, 5th to September 15th (a conference) was held in Burkina Faso Ouaga. This was an introduction of the School of Christ training program. This meeting has gathered 15 head pastors of churches who greatly appreciated the lessons of the school. After the introduction program it was concluded that the real training program will be held in the month of November with 27 pastors and their assistant pastors before we open the school to the other pastors of the country. In the training program was also the secretary of the Assemblies of God Council.”

I have recently received this report from Pastor Joseph who is running the school in his church.

“We have just finished our September class of School of Christ, today Friday, September 27, 2013. We had 14 students (pastors and church leaders) who attended this class. Through their testimonies you could tell that God was at work in their lives during the classes and they have gone back to their respective areas changed people.”

Ivory Coast

Brother Shalom is in Ivory Coast at the moment conducting the School of Christ there. He recently sent a report as follows:

“I have been leading training programs but this School of Christ program we are having here in Ivory Coast, I can say it is the best I have ever lead in this year. We start the school early in the morning with a prayer and start the classes. Next Saturday will be the graduation ceremony with 28 pastors from influential churches in Ivory Coast.”

Please be in prayer for the schools in November that are going to be running in Nigeria, Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. God willing, I will travel to DRC for the running of that school and also Nigeria and Uganda later in the month.

The focus and vision of LITWM continues to be running discipleship schools to train pastors and leaders. Our burden is that these pastors who have gone through the training would return to their churches and be a blessing, and that the churches would be a blessing to their communities and nations.

We have arrived safely back in the States and are settling back into our old home again. We have been traveling and reporting back to the churches that helped sponsor the work in Africa. It has been so good to see friends and family again. I will be leaving on the 12th September to run a school in South Africa in the city of Pretoria. From there I travel to Rwanda for the graduation of the School of Christ that started on the 9th September. I will arrive back in the States the 3rd October.

In the month of August, schools have been running in the countries of Kenya, Benin Republic and Ivory Coast.
For the month of September we have schools running in Rwanda and South Africa .

The work continues even if our location has changed.

It has been exciting to see in Kenya and Togo, the local churches have been working together with us to help sponsor these schools
This is a brief report from our director in Togo called Shalom, who went to Ivory Coast to conduct the school.

MISSION REPORT FROM IVORY COAST
“In the month of august was held in the Republic of Ivory Coast the training program of the School of Christ International which gathered 94 pastors from different churches.
After this training program, 25 pastors register for the next training program that will come soon in the month of September 11^th to October 12, 2013 in Ivory Coast.”

KENYA
Joseph our director in Kenya sent this report:
“We have been having the class for the past three weeks now and we will be graduating on Sat. We had 7 pastors, men only, there was much joy in me as all major parts of the nation were represented. The testimonies are powerful as some pastors have made up in their heart to go and get right with their brother as soon as they go home. Many have seen the light about the life of Christ. All the glory to God. Joseph”

In the month of June we were able to run two schools. The first was in Yaounde, Cameroon, although it was a small school, we are trusting God to add fuel to the fire and spread the good tidings of Christ and His salvation throughout that country. The second school was in a place called Bugesera, Rwanda this was the first time we have run a school in this province. In this month of July we are presently running a school in Mubende, Uganda we have had 4 pastors who were not able continue in the school owing to sickness and problems in their family. Please remember to be in prayer for these men and the other students in the class.

Schools run in May

Malakal, South Sudan

Malakal is a city located near to the border of North Sudan. The difficulties in running this school were numerous, but thanks be to God who giveth us the victory. The food prices were exceptionally high because food had to be imported in. There was no running water or electricity for the school, so we had to hire donkey carts to bring river water for the bathing of the students and we used a generator to run the lessons. The food we imported in via boat from Juba (capital city of South Sudan) was delayed and we had also hired a tent from Juba to run the school. So we had to use a rickety church building and buy local food for the first week. The temperature was hot, the water to bathe in was filthy, but the students were hungry for the Word of God. There was such an openness and receptivity to God’s Word that made up for the difficulties. Upon my departure I was not allowed into the checking area because I had not got CID (Criminal Investigation Department) clearance. I disputed with them because the day before my departure when I had visited the immigration office to get the clearance, they told me that I didn’t need it. At the airport the immigration officers arranged my clearance for a fee! I left the country saying to my myself I would not return, but repented later for my rashness.

Okitipupa, Nigeria

Okitipupa is located about 6 hrs drive east of Lagos, the capitol of Nigeria. It was a great school and such a blessing. We had 30 students, some of which were leaders in major church organizations in the local area. One man who came to the school was the pastor of a church group called the Celestial People. I don’t know all the doctrines of this group but they are a cult; they walk barefoot and wear white garments; their actions are determined solely by the prophets within the church. This man after the third day of being in the school was completely broken and turned to the Word of God. He ended up wanting the school to come to his church in the future

Mubende, Uganda

This school was at the right place at the right time. There was such a demand for the training in this place that after the registration of 38 pastors, other pastors had to be turned away and asked to come to the next school we were planning in July. During the middle of the school something wonderful happened as God moved by his Spirit in touching the pastors hearts. I am quoting Richard Kairu who is our director for Uganda as he explains what happened in the class.“Dear brother, this has never happened before. The revival broke since yesterday evening in one hour of prayer, pastors were crying, repenting for their carnal and false preaching and now today we are in fasting, and I told them that we shall use the time of lunch for prayer and in the middle of prayer, brother, the wind of God blew and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. We are now on the lessons of the Holy Spirit, it has been great.”

It has been a busy month in April and another busy one set for May. I tried to slow everything down at the beginning of the year by running the schools on a bi-monthly basis, but I’ve found it getting ahead of me, so the schools have ended up running continuously.

SOC’s run in April–

Goma, D.R. Congo – For those who are familiar with Eastern Congo, you may already know about the rebel army groups fighting for dominance in the area. The city of Goma was recently overtaken by a rebel force called M23 and the United Nations was forced to move out of the city. It is a very unstable region.

We had a number of pastors who have been in the ministry for many years. They came to the class very disillusioned, because of all the fighting and problems occurring in the region. The Lord met with them during the school and their hearts were stirred up and encouraged to press on in the Lord’s will; for the warfare we fight is not against flesh and blood.

Kinshasa, D.R. Congo – On the Western side of DRC we ran the school in Kinshasa. There were 38 students in attendance.

Nairobi, Kenya. This school had been a long time forthcoming. We have been in Kenya now for almost two years and my heart was concerned that the school had not progressed like I had hoped. The good news was that we had a brother who approached me with the intent to run the school during the holidays when he could use a school building to run the School of Christ teaching. He got the building for free. I said I would help with the food cost and he said that his church would cover the water and electric, Praise God. There were 15 pastors graduated from this training.

Abidjan, Ivory Coast – I spent a week with Pastor Shalom from Togo running an introduction class in Ivory Coast for the School of Christ. This was the first time the school has been introduced here. It was a good challenge to the leaders of the churches. We plan to bring two of their leaders from Ivory Coast to go through the complete school in June in Cameroon. This will enable them to know fully what the school is about before we run it in Ivory Coast at a later time.

For the month of May:

We have already started a school in Mubende, Uganda. There was such a demand for the school that there were not enough places for everyone who wanted to come. There are 38 pastors going through the school at the moment, and others had to be told to wait until the July class. It is always a blessing to go where the hearts are hungry for the Word of God.

We will be running schools in Rwanda and Nigeria later on in the month. Next week we start a school in South Sudan, in a city called Malakal which is close to the border of North Sudan. I will be leaving to be present for the first week of this school. The situation is difficult because we could not find anyone to rent us a building for one month in that area. So we rented a big tent and will be running the school in it. Also the cost of food is exceptionally high as we are having to import it. We are expecting 60 pastors and leaders to be in attendance.

Thank you all for your prayers and support. The doors are open in the vast continent for much needed discipleship. Please be in prayer for the schools in the month of May and also that God would give me wisdom on how to handle the various situations that arise.
